London Dog Training FAQs

What type of dog training is right for my dog?

It depends on age, behaviour, how your dog learns, and what you want to change. 1-2-1 training suits focused work on specific problems, residential provides an intensive programme, and puppy or adult obedience classes build everyday foundations. Contact the team to talk through a starting point.

Typical dog training costs in London vary depending on the type of support required. Group classes often cost around £15–£30 per session, private training commonly ranges from £50–£150 per hour, and specialist behaviour consultations may cost £100–£250 or more. Residential training can cost several hundred pounds per week.

The main factors affecting the price include the trainer’s experience, the session length, whether training takes place privately or in a group, your dog’s age and behaviour, the complexity of the issue, travel requirements and whether follow-up support is included.

At Halo Dogs, a one-to-one session with a senior behaviourist costs £400. Residential dog training costs £800 per week. Dog walking costs £45 per walk, while fun agility costs £45 with an instructor or £20 without one. Prices include VAT at the applicable rate.

A one-to-one session focuses entirely on your dog, your concerns, and the situations you face together. Sessions with our senior behaviourist typically last between two and four hours, covering anything from basic obedience to more complex behavioural challenges.
During residential training, your dog stays with Halo Dogs for focused, consistent support. A three-week stay is typical: the first week builds trust, the second introduces new learning, and the third helps consolidate progress. The recommended duration may vary according to individual needs.
There is no fixed timeframe. Some everyday skills may improve quickly, while fear, aggression, separation anxiety, or long-established habits usually require more time and consistent practice. Your trainer can provide clearer expectations after understanding the behaviour and its possible causes.
We train with positive reinforcement and clicker training. The clicker marks the exact moment your dog gets something right, which removes the guesswork for them and makes learning faster than praise or a treat delivered a second or two late. From there we build the behaviour you want rather than suppressing the behaviour you do not.

Yes, though both start with a conversation rather than a booking. For aggression, we ask that your dog has been seen by a vet first, since pain and underlying medical issues are behind a meaningful share of sudden behaviour changes, and no amount of training will resolve a behaviour that has a physical cause. The same applies to separation anxiety, which is a genuine distress response rather than disobedience and often needs a veterinary input alongside a behaviour plan.

Once that is clear, we start with assessment, where we look at the history, the triggers and what has already been tried. From there we will tell you honestly whether this is something we can help with, roughly how long it is likely to take, and whether you would be better served by a clinical animal behaviourist working with your vet.

There is no upper age limit. Older dogs learn perfectly well, and a lot of our work with senior dogs is about settling, lead manners and adapting to changes in mobility or hearing rather than obedience.

The minimum is 10 weeks, once your puppy is fully vaccinated and your vet is happy for them to start. That applies across puppy training, residential programmes and guard dog foundations. Getting started early matters, because the habits that are hardest to undo at two years old are usually the ones that were never addressed at six months.

Halo Dogs is based in Enfield, North London, within a private 540-acre countryside estate. The setting provides space for focused training, controlled exercises, walking, agility and practice around real-world distractions.

Begin by contacting Halo Dogs and explaining your dog’s age, behaviour, history and the changes you would like to see. The team can then recommend whether one-to-one, residential, puppy, obedience or another training option is most appropriate
